Material Selection
Material Selection
Once the project is go I’ll create a materials list and head over to the lumberyard. I choose Bohnhoff Lumber in Vernon for their stellar selection of domestic hard and softwoods as well as some choice exotics. All wood is FSC certified and they’ve been family owned for several generations. Going through my parts list I’ll sort through boards intent on finding a symbiotic grain pattern I feel will work well for your design. I try and maximize the parts I can get out of every board so that the color and grain match will be perfect.
The Yard
For rough lumber, I choose Bohnhoff Lumber in Vernon, Ca. This lumberyard has been family-owned through multiple generations and has the best selection and materials in the greater Southern California area. They carry premium domestic hardwoods in all standard thicknesses, as well as some choice exotics and slabs.
Material Selection
During my time at the lumberyard I sort through the stacks in order to hand-select each piece of wood specific to your project. This means I'm sorting through boards focusing on grain pattern, color, character, defects, and their overall dimension.
